PRESS RELEASE
Changes to be put in effect with the arrival of the flu season.
Midland, October 21, 2009: Due to an expected large amount of sick patients over the next couple of weeks as the flu season arrives, Orchid Community Medical Center is asking that anyone visiting inpatients in the main hospital be 18 years or above in age. These visitors must be healthy without any symptoms or respiratory illness. In addition to that, anyone visiting Labor and Delivery must be limited to healthy parents and grandparents only.
We are expecting a large number of people to come down with either Influenza A or the H1N1 virus and are trying to use any measures to prevent the spread of the viruses. Influenza-like illnesses can affect anyone at any age, but the H1N1 virus is most likely to affect someone under the age of 24.
In addition to the visitor rules, we also ask that anyone going to a doctor’s office for a checkup or for an acute visit for an illness to please wear a mask if they are coughing or experiencing any kind of symptoms of respiratory illness to prevent the spread to other patients.
This policy is to be in effect until the end of the 2009-2010 flu season.
